Prolight was established in 1996 to suppy a range of professional DJ
lighting equipment to the UK market. Over the years they relied on a
mail order catalogue that was produced annually.
In control.
As they grew and the range of new products accellerated It became
important for prolight
to establish an online trade catalogue that they could manage themselves in order to
display the wide range of
lighting products that they manufacture and sell via their trade
dealers.
Many of their customers already have websites and it was only natural
that current and potential dealers could access the latest range of
lighting products available online along with current dealer pricing.
Because the business is a wholesaler there is no requirement to sell
directly to the general public and therefore the public shopping cart has not
been activated.
Un-Like paper catalogues the internet catalogue allows the playback of
high quality movies that show how the many lighting effects actually
look like
when they are used. This saved any unnecessary costs associated with lighting
demonstration visits by sales reps and allows the company to focus on
offering high quality product information directly to their dealers
from the website.
Dealer support.
In addition many manufacturers have
already spent considerable time and money
producing technically
detailed PDF versions of
their products and it was important that these could be attached to the
product pages in the site to provide additional sales information that
many of the dealers retail customers were asking about. This again
helped reduce the cost of distributing printed catalogues or product
data sheets.

hide it?
The
idea of going to all this length to produce a huge library of
professional lighting products only to hide it seemed stupid. Why hide
your site away on the internet when you can let the internet in to find
your products and increase sales? It was important for the catalogue
pages to be visible to search engines and especially google. Shortly
after launching the site, internet marketing activity allowed google to
find many of the sites pages and as time has gone by this has increased
the volume of sales enquiries from the site without resorting to pay
per click.
Business Evolves.
During
the course of the last few years many of the back office
functions have evolved and it became essential to find a system that
could cope with the business growth and that linked back
office systems to the website directly. Webshak were please to be asked
to help, a range of stock system software suppliers were
chosen, their software was evaluated against prolights businees
processes and one came out top, however the way the software integrated
with the web was inefficient and lacking in many areas. Once the new
system had been settled in and prolights office staff had been trained
Webshak were commissioned to integrate the backoffice system with a web
application that prolight needed in order to interact with their many
customers in the UK. Now that the web application has been integrated
with their internal systems the latest individual pricing, ordering,
invoices and stock levels are at their dealers fingertips and dealers
are becoming more and more aware of the features and benefits of
dealing with prolight in this way.
This is an example of a business that runs a seamless supplychain
operation from the far east to the the distribution of proffessional
sound and lighting equipment across the uk. Webshak are very pleased to

Cyclone Mobility
& Fitness Equipment are specialists in the disabled market.
Managing Director Stuart Dunne is himself in a wheelchair following a
road accident. In July 1985 Stuart was rushed to Midlands Spinal
Injuries Centre, following a severe road traffic accident. Six months
later, following intense rehabilitation and specialist care, Stuart
emerged to face life beyond the hospital boundaries.
Having such a high
cervical injury (C6/7) life was very difficult - just moving the NHS
issue wheelchair was like pushing a Sherman Tank ! It was then that
Stuart realised that there was a solution. In 1989 the first Cyclone
lighweight wheelchair was produced and was the start of greater things

Secure shopping.
It's
important to be able to offer customers the choice to purchase online
or offline offline. If an online payment is requested then the secure
shopping process starts with the ability for a customer to set up a
simple account after they have chosen the items they wish to purchase
this saves them re-registering when they return. If they choose to pay
online they can then check the basket od items they have chosen and
they are directed to a secure online payment gateway (in this case
protx) and the customers are then asked for their credit card details.
At no point are the customers credit card details recorded in the site.
Cyclone customers can enjoy the online shopping offered by the
catalogue system and are re-assured when they see that the site's
payment system is secured by the secure protx payment area.
Flexible catalogue.
One of the benfits of the tinto system is that it has been
developed
to allow merchants to be selective about the products that are for sale.
As many business find, they have some
products that are available for direct sale from the website and others
that need to be displayed as part of the catalogue but don't have a
cost that can be displayed
as they depend on a special fitting or they may simply be out of stock.
The
home page is always a useful place to highlight new products and a
standard feature allows merchants to highlight products on the home
page giving customers immediate access to the latest products.
